Ask anyone if they would travel solo and the most popular response is “No ways!” We believe the biggest factor contributing in not making the solo travel happen is the fear of being lonely, unsafe, scared, or simply bored.

Here are some common fears of a solo travelers that hold them back from embarking on what probably can be a ‘trip of their lifetime.’

When you do you research, you will realize that solo travel can be a tad bit expensive since you won’t be splitting the costs of accommodation and food. But it doesn’t really have to be that expensive. There are many hotels that do not charge the single supplement for solo travelers. In fact, you can also save some costs by making your own meals, using public transportation, and checking out free activities.

Feeling lonely

Sure, there will be some lonely dinners, but travelling solo also has its set of advantages. Stay at a hostel and chances are that you will make a whole lot of new friends. You may also discover that solitude actually agrees with you. Still not convinced? you can always join a walking tour or sign up for a cooking class to beat that loneliness.

This happens, whether travelling solo or not. Getting sick on the go can be annoying but sometimes unavoidable due to harsh weather conditions. Where you eat so must be careful. Additionally, you can always carry your own water bottle and keep a hand sanitize handy. If you are carrying prescription medicines with you, always keep the original prescription with you.

Solo travel is not safe

With safety at the top of your mind, you must know that solo travel is absolutely safe. You just have to be prepared, aware, and ready to expect the unexpected. But isn’t that the case with any kind of travel? There would be people who would caution try to caution you but always do your homework well. Make sure you choose a destination with keeping in mind the personal safety.

If you are planning on a month long ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ kind of a solo adventure, chances are that you many get homesick. You have left your loved ones behind, but you have a whole lot of new experiences waiting for you. You can savoir the world around you, start reading a book you always wanted to or even learn a new language.

Am I too old to go solo?

Just because you are 40 doesn’t mean you have missed the (solo) boat. There are many travel destinations, tour companies and communities that cater to your kind of tribe. Find the one that suits that travel interests and a plan a trip to set off on an ultimate adventure.

Will I be actually able to pull it off?
